Marc is leaving the band . . . [21 Jan 2008|06:26pm]

This just came on the Dropkicks' mailing list

Hi everyone,  We have announcement we need to make about the band and we're going to let Marc start things off;

Dear DKM friends & fans,  You may have heard some talk that I am going to stop playing with the Dropkick Murphys. I wanted to confirm that the rumors are true and I am leaving the band. I'm very grateful for everything playing with DKM has brought me and I'm sad to be going but I feel like the time has come for me to try working on different styles of music and some of my own projects, I'm ready to spread my wings as they say.

I've been pickin', ticklin', strummin', squeezin', crashin', trashin' and smashin' with the Dropkicks for many years and am proud to have been a part of all the achievements and success we've had. However the greatest achievement of all has been the friends I've made and the people I've met along the way. Everyone has always supported me and the rest of the guys 100% in everything we've done which makes my leaving all the more difficult.  I'm very anxious and excited to see where the road takes me. DKM are (of course) going to continue on and Tim Brennan will be taking my place playing guitar, Tim is one of the greatest musicians around and I know he'll do an amazing job. I wish him and the band all the best for the future and thank all the guys so much for everything they've done for me and for giving me a chance to see the world and play in one of the best punk rock bands around. I am going to miss you all and can't tell you how lucky I feel to have been given the opportunity to play in DKM. Thank you all DKM fans everywhere. DKMs alive! Keep listening!

 -- Marc Orrell.

It goes without saying that we're very sad to see Marc go but we'll always be great friends and he will be part of the Dropkick Murphys family forever. Just like the mafia, once you're in you can't get out!

Marc has told us he wants his music to go in a different direction and we all agreed that some of the new musical styles he wants to explore just aren't going to fit in with the Murphys sound. Marc and the rest of us all feel that preserving the Dropkick Murphys style the fans have come to know and expect should be the main priority.

As Marc mentioned above Tim will be moving over to playing guitar and another great friend of ours and fellow Boston guy Jeff DaRosa will be taking over Tim's old duties. Jeff is another super talented musician and has been tight with us since our days playing at the Rat and will be familiar to you from bands he has been in previously like the Pinkerton Thugs and The Vigilantes (whose record we released on our label many years ago).

We want everyone to know that we are still very committed to Dropkick Murphys and making our fans happy. As you all already know Tim is an extremely accomplished guitar player and musician so the transition is going to be very smooth. DKM will continue on with the same dedication, effort and heart we always have and we want you all to know Marc's leaving will not change any of our forthcoming plans. This is just another bump in the DKM rocky road.

-- Ken, Matt, Al, James, Tim & Scruffy.

Oh my Goddess! DKM was fecking FANTASTIC! Definatly the best show I've seen them do. It was great cause they did songs they didn't do last year, and I was bummed when they didn't. They included Wild Rover and Dirty Water. Stephanie came out for Dirty glass. They did two encores. First one they brought out the step dancers for Shipping up to Boston and Kiss me I'm Shit Faced (Where Ken walked through the crowed). The second encore was Skin Head on the MBTA (paying homage to Charlie!). Of course they brought people up on stage during this, ending the show with green and white balloons dropping down. They didn't do Good Rats (which I don't think I've ever hear them do),Spicy McHaggis or Upstarts and Broken Hearts (which is one of my faves). It's ok though cause I finally got to hear them do Wild Rover, which is one of my top 3 faves, not sure why they didn't do Dirty Water last year but it was great to hear it this year. Pretty much every song (except for Tessie...meh) rocked! I took pics and videos which I will be putting up tonight! Oh and the second opening act sucked, I can't fathom why they would open for the DKM (didn't see the first opening act). I ended up buying the "Kiss me I'm shit faced" shirt and a black and green arm band (I got one last year but gave it to my friend), so now I have a green and a pink. Ok, I will put up the stuff later like I said!

Do you think the time and venue change will effect the show in any way? In an either good or bad way?

Hello all, I'm new and DKM is my favorite band!

I first heard about them back in 2001 when the college I went to was in works of booking them. I never listened cause I wasn't interested, and left the college before they played.

Back in Nov of 2005 I went to a Bruins game with a friend. The DKM were playing after and I wasn't really into it. However on the car ride home my friend put on a CD, and I instantly liked it. I went out and bought "The Gangs all Here" and was hooked. I went to the show last year on St Paddy's day and then again on the on the 19th. The 19th was the best, cause I got to go on stage during "Spicy McHaggis" and, I had my arm around Ken Casey (BTW, I may be weird, but I think he's wicked hot). I promised myself that I would go every year to see them on St. Paddy's day. True to my word I have tickets for this years show. Though I am a bit dissapointed they changed the location and that it's such an early show. Right now I own Live from Boston 2002, The Gangs all Here, Blackout and The Warriors Code. Favorite songs would be;Upstarts and Broken Hearts,The Dirty Glass,Good Rats,Rocky Road to Dublin and Wild Rover Here are a couple pics from the show on the 19th last year.

Hey, I'm going to my first Dropkick show this coming Saturday, the 10th, in Grand Rapids Michigan.

I guess first of all is there anyone on here who is going?

And then, just I mean I've heard their shows fuckin rock and have seen vids and all that shit, but if you've seen them live, let me know what I'm in for or experiences you've had at their shows, etc.

oh, How likely is it they'll play "The Gauntlet" and "Forever"?

Living in the pro-irish country like Russia is good on average (ignoring the price of 5-7 pound for pint o'guiness) but causes some problems with the music of the Emerald Isle.
So I've got a question. Where can I ordrer a Dropkick Murphys video so that the sellers were not afraid to ship it using the fucked-up corruped russian post-service? Does anybody knows a bold e-shop?

Hey, I thought I'd share a few pics from the Kansas City show at the Beaumont on 3/12. Some of these are a bit blurry because they were taken with a disposable camera which had been in a very sweaty pocket. Most are from the pit. If you click on them, you can see them bigger and probably in better quality. Enjoy!

Help anyone? [25 Feb 2006|09:54am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

I'm looking for a version of 'Amazing Grace' by DKMs, but with the vocal parts as well. I don't know if this actually exists, as every version I've tried to download so far is instrumental only, but I heard them play it live with vocals and I'd die from happiness if someone could point me in the right direction.

We're in the process of putting together a DVD for The Dropkick Murphy's which will focus on the story of the song "Tessie" (The Red Sox theme song), how The Dropkick's came to record it and what was involved. Expect exclusive interviews with the band, never seen before footage of The Dropkicks filming the video for "Tessie" in Fenway Park, and Red Sox players in the studio recording with the band. The Red Sox Television Dept. has supplied us with a ton of great material .
We should have a teaser up sometime in late January.

Hey guys, I thought some of you might be instrested in ringtones from Epitaph bands for your cell phone. I saw an ad for this a few days ago. "It works with most ATT, Cingular, and Tmobile service. Standard text messaging rates apply." All you have to do is send a text message to 73804 with the word "EPITAPH". I got a Time Bomb-Rancid and For Boston-Dropkick Murphys tone! They have a whole bunch of other bands too, you should check it out!
